Price and free trial

One plan, two ways to pay.

Haven Family is $19.95 a month or $199 a year, and covers up to 12 people, including you.

  • Your first plan starts with a 30 day free trial. You add a card at checkout, and nothing is charged until the trial ends.
  • When the trial ends, the plan you chose starts and your card is charged. There is nothing to do if you want to keep Haven Family.
  • The trial is offered once per family. If your plan ends and you start it again later, it starts paid.
  • If you have a promotion code, enter it where you choose monthly or yearly, before you go to checkout. A code that makes Haven Family free takes the place of the free trial.
  • At checkout, a box you tick confirms that your plan renews automatically until you cancel.
  • After checkout, we email you a confirmation with your plan and its price, when you are first charged, how to cancel, and our refund policy.

Who manages billing

The plan belongs to the family's owner.

The person who set up the family is its owner, and only the owner can see or change billing. Admins can invite and remove members and change the family's Protected sites, but they do not see Billing, they do not get billing emails, and only the owner can make someone an admin.

  1. Sign in at account.starthaven.com as the owner.

  2. Open Billing. It takes you to a secure Stripe page where you can update your card, see your invoices and cancel.

Changing the owner

To hand the family to another member, open Members & seats and choose Make owner on their row. They get an email and say yes from their own Haven account. If your plan is paid, they add their own card, nothing is charged until the date it next renews, and your card is not charged again. You stay in the family as an admin.

Emails before you are charged

Sent to the owner's email address.

  • Your trial is ending. 16 days and 7 days before the trial ends, with the date, the amount you will be charged and how to cancel. You do not get these if you have already cancelled.
  • Your free period is ending. If a promotion code gave you time free, 35, 18 and 7 days before your first charge.
  • Your plan renews. 35 days and 20 days before each yearly renewal, with the date and the amount. A monthly plan gets one reminder a year, about a month before each anniversary of its first payment.
  • We couldn't charge your card. Once, the first time a payment fails. See below.
  • Your plan has ended. When a cancelled plan reaches its end date, or when a failed payment could not be recovered.

Each email has a button that takes you straight to your billing page: Open Billing, or Renew Haven Family once the plan has ended.

When the plan ends, everyone else in your family gets an email too. It tells them Haven Family has ended, that Haven keeps protecting them at no cost, and that there is nothing they need to do.

If a payment fails

You have time to fix it.

If a charge does not go through, we email you once and keep trying the card over the following days. Haven keeps protecting your family the whole time.

Update your card in Billing and the next attempt uses it. If the card still cannot be charged after the last attempt, the plan ends, the same way a cancelled plan does.

Cancelling

A cancelled plan runs to the end of what you have paid for.

  1. Open Billing as the owner and choose to cancel your plan.

  2. Your plan stops renewing. Everyone keeps full Haven Family until the end of the month or year you have paid for, and then the plan ends.

  • No refunds, except where required by law. We do not refund the unused part of a month or year, which is why your plan keeps running until its end date instead of stopping straight away.
  • Cancelling during the free trial means you are never charged. The plan ends when the trial would have.

When a plan ends

Your family stays together.

When a plan ends, nobody is removed. Every member stays in your family, and Haven keeps applying your family's protection settings on their browsers. Each of them gets an email saying the plan has ended.

What stops is the family dashboard. You and your admins cannot reach the family pages until the plan is renewed. You see a notice instead, and you can choose monthly or yearly to turn Haven Family back on for everyone at once. Admins see the same notice, but only you can renew.

Common questions

The billing questions families ask most.

Will I be charged when the free trial ends?

Yes, unless you cancel before it ends. Your card is charged for the plan you chose, monthly or yearly. We email you 16 days and 7 days before so it is never a surprise.

Can I get a refund if I cancel early?

No refunds, except where required by law. Instead, a cancelled plan keeps working until the end of the month or year you have already paid for, so you get what you paid for.

I am an admin. Why can't I see Billing?

A Haven Family plan belongs to its owner, so only the owner can see and change billing. Ask your family's owner. They can also make you the owner from Members & seats, which you accept from your own Haven account.

What happens to my family if the plan ends?

Nobody is removed and your protection settings keep applying. The family dashboard is locked until the owner renews, which brings the plan back for everyone at once.

How many people does Haven Family cover?

Up to 12 people, including the owner. Invites that have not been accepted yet count toward the 12.
